I come to you today with a great chance for reward…..A chance that is better than the world and everything in it. The Prophet Peace and blessings be upon him laid great emphasis on the sunnah prayer of Fajr, saying, "It is more superior than the world and everything within it." (Sahih Muslim 1:151) Can you imagine the two raka’a of sunnah are better than the world and everything in it!!?? If this is the value of the sunnah, what will be the value of the fard Subhana Allah?!! Oh my dear sister and brother who sleep and miss fajr, you are missing a lot. Imagine this entire world and everything in it, including the great Palaces, the expensive jewelry, the extravagant cars and all the valuable things in this dunia are not worth the two raka’as of sunnah prayer of fajr!!! 'A'isha (radiallahu anha) said, "The Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) was not as regular in any supererogatory (nafl) prayer as he was in the two rak'ats before Fajr." (Sahih Muslim 1:251) He would leave the nafl sometimes during travel but he will never miss the two rakas of sunnah of fajr, that is how important it is. He (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) also said regarding the two (sunnah) rak'ats at the break of dawn, "They are more beloved to me than the entire world." (Sahih Muslim 1:251) A question to you: do you really love him (salallahu alayhi wa sallam)? Then never miss it starting today. Abu Hurayra (radiallahu anh) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "Do not abandon the sunnah rak'ats of Fajr, even if horses trample over you." (Sunan Abu Dawud 1:186, Athar al-Sunan 1:224) Ya Allah, can you imagine how important this prayer is? Even if the horses are chasing you, you should not miss it!!! The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) allowed us to even pray it after fard if we missed it and had to pray fard because of time. That is how important this prayer is. The question to you my dear sister and brother: After all this emphasis on the two rakaas of sunnah of Fajr, how could you miss the fard?? How could you sleep? Always ask Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’alah during prayer to help you and grant you tawfeeq to wake up for fajr, don’t you ever miss this great opportunity, your entire life is worthless without it.
