And that you be dutiful to your parents…” {Surat Al-Israa: 23} * Muhammad ibn Al-Munkadir said: “My brother spent his night praying, and I spent my night massaging the feet of my mother and I do not wish my night is in place of his night” Meaning ‘I do not like to trade the night I spent being kind to my mother, massaging her feet, with the night that my brother spent standing in prayer, and getting closer to the Lord of the Worlds’ * Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash said: “I was with Mansoor ibn Al-Mu’tamir sitting in his house. His mother would shout at him ‘O Mansoor, Ibn Hubayrah wants you to be a judge and you are refusing?’ All the while Mansoor had his beard on his chest (his head was bowed) and he didn’t lift his face up to her (in humility)” * Ibn ‘Awn narrated: When Muhammad Ibn Sireen was in the presence of his mother and a man who did not know him saw him, he would think that he (Ibn Sireen) has some form of illness from the way he would lower his voice in front of her.
