Do not judge Islam by the Muslims! Islam is perfect but the Muslims are imperfect in their understanding and implementation of it. Many people get confused by this concept; they see Muslims making mistakes and then judge the religion on this - this is indeed a big error. This is an important message that should be given to reverts as-well - when they enter into Islam they must be reminded that the Muslims are far from perfect. I remember when I was starting to practice Islam. I went to the masjid and was waiting for the prayer to commence. Someone approached me and we began to talk. We spoke about the grave, the resurrection and other such issues pertaining to the religion - alhamdulillah it was a really nice conversation and the brother seemed very genuine. Just as the iqaamah was about to be called, he asked if he could borrow my phone to make a quick call to his wife. Without giving it a second thought, I gave him my phone. He seemed to be in an important call when the iqaamah was called so I stood up with everyone else to begin the prayer. It was only when I finished the prayer and looked around that I realized what had happened - he had stolen my phone and was nowhere to be seen. He had approached me and spoken about issues of the deen to earn my trust and then used the prayer as an excuse and a get-out plan. If I had taken this incident as a reflection of Islam I might have left the deen! Aouthubillah. Indeed I will take my rights from him infront of Allah. But subhan'Allah we should not take the weaknesses of the people as a judge of the religion, rather we should go back to the sources and learn about the perfection of the religion from there.
