Little Red Riding Hood (with an Islamic twist) Zee Gal Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl called Aamina who everybody loved. But most of all she was loved by her grandmother. One day she gave her a cute little hijab made of red satin and because it suited so well, And because it is girls favourite hijab, she was called as Little Red Riding Hood. One day her mother said to her, “Come here Little Red Riding Hood, take this cake and bottle of milk to your Grandmother”, her mother told her to stay on the path and not to talk to anyone because the woods were full of dangerous animals. Little Red Riding Hood was delighted at the opportunity to visit her Grandmother, And having put the delicacies in to a basket she stepped out with the hijab on while reciting the dua, “ Bismillah thawakkalthu, alallah,wa laa hawla wa laa quwatha illa billah” (In the name of Allah ,I place my trust in Allah,And there is nor might no power except with Alaah) Red Riding Hood said Salams and, Reds mother said Fiamanallah and warned “ Don’t stay away from path or you might become lost and be sure to return before nightfall.” Assuring her mother that she would take care the girl joyfully set off through the forest. The forest was a beautiful place to the little girl. It was a large mysterious place; the haunt of many wild animals, any other child might have been frightened, but little Red Riding Hood grown up near the forest and many of these animals had become her friends because she always showed kindness to animals. She enjoyed walking in the cool shade of the tall, over shadowing trees. The birds and butterflies startled and flowers danced around her in the sunlight which penetrated the overhanging branches. As she continued on her way she met many of her animal friends.“Assalamu Alikum !, Little Red Riding Hood” they greeted as she passed. All of a sudden she heard a rusting amongst the branches of the tree above her. She looked up and saw her friend, the Squirrel! Hello Little Red Riding Hood, where are you going with your heavily laden basket?? He asked surprised at seeing the little girl so far from home. “I am taking some cakes to my Grandmother who is ill in bed”. She replied. “I don’t want to frighten you”, said Squirrel, “But there is a rumor being spread by certain animals that there is a Wolf prowling in the forest.” Little Red Riding Hood had never heard of a wolf before, And the Squirrels warning did not frighten her unduly. She wandered on down the path. And she saw some flowers. “ what beautiful flowers she said to herself, they would make a lovely present to my grandmother”. She set down her basket and began to gather some of the pretty blooms. Meanwhile, Unknown to her the vicious Wolf had followed her as safe distance. The wolf thought to himself “This young tender thing will make a delicious meal; She will taste even better than the old women. But I must be very cunning, so that I can get hold of both of them. I will approach her quietly so as not to frighten her away”. He slunk forwards Little Red Riding Hood. “What are you doing all alone in the dark forest Little Red Riding Hood?” He enquired. “I am gathering some flowers to take to my grandmother who lives in a little red house on the far side of the forest” Replied the little girl. Poor little Red Riding Hood did not realize that the animal who spoke so softly to her was the wicked wolf about whom the Squirrel has warned her. Ha Ha! Thought the wolf. He turned to the little Red Riding Hood and said, “It’s getting late child, If you don’t hurry you will not be back before nightfall, come with me I will show you a short cut.” Unaware of the wicked thoughts of the cunning wolf she followed him a little way down the path and thanking him for his kindness, she followed the path he indicated. Little Red Riding Hood continued happily on her way but the path that wolf had shown her only led her into deep forest. The Wolf how ever went straight to the grandmother’s house and knocked on the door. Who is outside? She asked. “It’s me Little Red Riding Hood, I am bringing you cakes and milk, open the door” Said the Wolf. “Just push down the handle” grandmother replied. I am too weak and cannot get up from my bed. The wolf pushed the door handle down and opened the door without saying a word he went straight up to the grandmother’s bed and gobbled her. Then he put on her clothes and wrapped her hijab right around his head covering his wicked face. Little Red Riding Hood had been wandered round the forest until she met her friend, The Squirrel who guided her to the right path. It seemed a long time before she found herself in front of the familiar red house belonging to her grandmother. She was surprised when she saw that the door was left open and when she went into the room she felt awfully strange and thought “ Oh dear, I feel a bit frighten today and normally I love visiting my grandmother! And she mumbled ayathul qursi before she stepped into the grandmother’s room. She called, Assalamu Alikum Grandma!! But got no reply. Then she went in and stood near the bed. Her grandmother was lying there with her hijab pulled over her face and looked very strange indeed, Grandmother, what big ears you have? The entire better to hear you with Grandmother,What big eyes you have? The entire better to see you with Grandmother, what large teeth you have? All the better to eat you with, As soon as the Wolf has said these words, He jumped forward out of the bed to gobble up poor Little Red Riding Hood. And Red Riding Hood threw the basket full of goodies to the wolf and ran fast out of the house crying out loud for help. Since the wolf had gobbled the grandmother he couldn’t rush fast behind the girl and a hunter was just passing the house heard Red Riding Hood crying out loud asking for help and saw the little girl and asked what’s wrong? Little Red Riding Hood said what happened and the hunter went inside of the house and saw the wolf stepping slowly out of the room in search of Red Riding Hood. “I have found you at last you wicked beast!!” He said. I have been trying to find you for a longtime. The hunter tied up the wolf in a tree front of the house and took a pair of scissors and started to cut the wolf’s stomach. He saved the grandmother who could hardly breathe, And the Wolf immediately collapsed and dropped down dead. All three were very happy, and the grandmother ate the cake and drank the milk which little Red Riding Hood bought to her and then she recovered from her ordeal. But Little Red Riding Hood never forget to thank Almighty Allah for saving her life and her grandmothers and she thought “ NEVER AGAIN WILL I LEAVE THE PATH AND GO INTO THE WOODS, WHEN MOTHER FORBIDDEN IT AND I WILL NEVER TRUST STRANGERS TOO”.
