Angels in the Parking Lot This is a story that represents many values and was written by the teacher who experienced the amazing event: Earlier on Monday we were informed of a phone that was stolen from a teacher...well, I would like to share an experience I had at Open House which made me proud to be surrounded by wonderful Hoover students. When I arrived at Hoover for Open House, apparently my phone fell out of my pocket as I was getting out of the car. I was unaware that this device was no longer in my possession. For at least an HOUR, it sat on the ground in the parking lot. The boys baseball team arrived around 7 pm and two brothers, Kyle and Tyler, found my phone. At this point they could have done any number of things with my phone, but they chose to go above and beyond what was necessary to find the rightful owner. They used the phone to call the "home" number and asked who the phone belonged to. After a nice conversation with my daughter, they knew to find Mrs. Trotter in the Event Center or in room 4. (Yes, my daughter said she will never let me live this down.) I have never had the pleasure of having these two boys in class, and they did not know who I was (shocking I know!), but they went out of their way to find me and graciously return the phone that I still did not realize I had lost. Aren't they AWESOME!! But wait, it doesn't end there. The more I thought about it, the more impressed I was with these brothers, so I just had to call home and talk to their mother. Of course, they had not mentioned anything about the incident to their mom. As a parent myself, we don't always get the opportunity to hear how great our kids are...so I let Mrs. H know how impressed I was with the actions of her two boys. The smiles that were plastered on their faces as they handed the phone to me will stick with me for quite some time. Below we give, in the words of the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet Muhammad, the chief qualities a Muslim should display: Truthfulness: "O you who believe! keep your duty to Allah and speak straight, true words." (Holy Quran 33:70) "O you who believe, keep your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful people." (9:119) "Be maintainers of justice and bearers of true witness for Allah, even if it (the truth) goes against your own selves or parents or relatives or someone who is rich or poor."
