Manners of Talking:A VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT OF A KIDS LIFE When speaking, speak slowly and clearly so people can understand you and you can give people a chance to speak. To make people understand, try and repeat what you say. When someone is talking then look at the person and pay attention.(from world's first journey by Malik Javed) Ludovic Kennedy the TV journalist and presenter states; The three most important qualities in a good speaker are'...a relaxed stance, the careful use of gesture and short simple sentences.' Lord Reith, founder of the BBC, always said that the three main purposes of broadcast radio were to: 1. Educate 2. Inform 3. Entertain The Messenger of Allah, May bless him and grant him peace, educated his Ummah of the truth, he informed us about the rights of people and entertained those who followed the Qur'an and the Sunnah with the glad tidings of Jannah. EYE CONTACT Anne Nicholls author of 'Mastering public speaking' writes; 'If you avoid eye contact it looks as if you are unsure of yourself or that you don't believe in what you are saying. A broad sweep is better than jerky eye movement with your eyes flitting all over the place that unsettles them.' FACIAL EXPRESSION Anne Nicholls further writes; 'There is nothing more captivating than a smile. This will help you to relax and make a positive communication. The messege it conveys to the person is: 'I am pleased to be here and looking forward to meeting you.' This makes the person feel good and their mood is conveyed back to you - Which helps you feel good, too.' THE SUNNAH When someone wanted to talk to our peloved Prophet, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, he would turn toward him fully and face him directly. Aisha, Allah be pleased with her, states, 'When the Messenger, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, spoke it was clear and every listening person could understand (what he said).' Anas , May Allah be pleased with him, stated that, 'When the Prophet. May Allah bless him and grant him peace, would talk, he repeated it (that which he said) three times so that it could be understood.' Jabir Ibn AbdAllah, May Allah be pleased with him, says, "After I accepted Islam, The Messenger of Allah, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, never prohibited me from attending his assemblies. Whenever he saw me he smiled." To smile at a Muslim brother is charity. Smile and recieve the reward of Sadaqa. THE PROPHET'S (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) VOICE WAS AT THE PEAK OF BEAUTY Allah (Azzawajal) gifted Him with the ability to make Himself heard, and to cast His voice over long distances, and vast areas, which no other voice could reach. Tirmidhi narrated that Anas (Radhiyallahu anhu) said: 'Allah did not send a Prophet except with a beautiful face and a beautiful voice, and your Prophet (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) was the fairest of them in face and voice'. His voice would carry further than other voices could carry. Barra'b.'Azib (Radhiyallahu anhu) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) addressed us so that His voice reached evern the maidens in their chambers.' Abu Na'aym narrated on the authority of Aisha Siddiqa (Radhiyallahu anha) that RasoolAllah (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) sat on the pulpit one Friday and said to the people: 'Sit', and Abdullah b. Rawaha (Rashiyallahu anha) heard Him from Bani Ghanm1 and so sat down where he was2. THE SWEETNESS OF HIS SPEECH The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) speech was sweet and beautiful. When He spoke, He captured all hearts, and captivated spirits and minds. When he spoke, light would be emitted from between His (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam)'s blessed teeth. Abi Qirsafa said: 'My mother, my aunt and I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam), and as we were leaving Him to go home, my mother and my aunt said to me: “O child, we have never seen the like of this man, nor any face more handsome than this, nor anyone with cleaner clothes, nor softer speech. It was as though we saw light shining from his mouth.”3 THE PURITY AND ELOQUENCE OF HIS SPEECH RasoolAllah(Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) was the most eloquent being in the speech that Allah created, and the clearest of them in rhetoric. He was given the compendium of speech, astonishing wisdom, stern rebuke, decisive command, solid judgement, sound advice, profound cousel, irefutable argument, conclusive proofs and manifest evidences. It is mentioned in the Musnad and elsewhere that 'Abdullah b. Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) came out to us one day as though he was preparing to bid us farewell, and said: “ I am Muhammed, the unlettered Prophet,” repeating this three times, “There is no Prophet after me. I have been given the first of speech, and the last of it, and the compendium of it.” How could he not be the most eloquent of Allah's Creation, when Allah(azzawajal) gave him speech that emobodied many meanings in simple words? Another example of this is the report of 'Atiyya b. 'Urwa al-Sa'di, that the Prophet(Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) said about something which was said to him: 'The higher hand is the one that gives, and the lower hand is the one that takes.” Attiya said: “The Messenger of Allah(Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) spoke to us in our language', i.e. the language of Bani Sa'd, which replaced the Arabic letter 'ayn with the letter nun.4 1A branch of the tribe of Khazraj 2This shows the great haste to obey the Prophet's ( Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) commands, although he was not the one of those to whom the command was given, because His ( Sallalahu alaihi wasalam)'s command was directed to those present in the sermon to sit. However, the perfection of good manners necessitated it. See the good conduct of Sahabah with Him ( Sallalahu alaihi wasalam). 3In Majma' al-Zawa'id, the author says: '(this hadith) was narrated by Tabarani, and its chain of transmission includes people unknown to me.' 4The hadith is related in full in Sharh al-Mawahib, ascribed to 'Abd al-Barr and Hakim. Al-Hafiz al-Qastalani said: 'This was one of His(Sallalahu alaihi wasalam) unique characteristic: he would speak to everyone in their own language, according to the different Arabic dialects, and their different word formation and way of speaking.'
